Frequently Asked Questions

Why Inspiring Careers?

I founded Inspiring Careers to use my recruitment and coaching experience to help other people enjoy their careers and work more. Whether you are looking for a complete career change, help with job searches, or if you are looking to secure a promotion, I can help you get there more quickly and successfully than going it alone.

How can Inspiring Careers help me?

I believe that everyone deserves a career that makes them happy and that they enjoy. I can help and support you to:

  • change career
  • feel less stressed and overwhelmed at work
  • progress your career – if you feel dissatisfied or you are not progressing
  • get promoted and earn more
  • secure a new role

What is coaching?

Coaching is a series of one-to-one discussions focused on helping you achieve what you want to achieve.  It looks at what you want, where you are now, and how to get to where you want to be.  It often helps build confidence and skills, so that you can have a more inspiring career and life.

Coaching doesn’t involve giving you lots of advice, or telling you what to do.  However, using my recruitment experience, I can offer you practical advice on support, for example around your CV, interviewing and personal branding.

How long does it last?

Coaching works best over a period of time.  Investing in a series of six sessions is the most cost effective way to work with me, although I also offer ‘power sessions’ and ‘top-up sessions’.  The duration of the coaching relationship varies depending on your needs, although there is rarely a clear and absolute timetable for career coaching.

What happens in a coaching session?

My coaching sessions typically last up to one hour, conducted at a convenient time for you (such as the weekend or evening) and may include the following:

  • Review of the previous session and the actions that you completed
  • Considering where you are now in relation to where you want to be
  • Exploring your options
  • Agreeing actions
  • Summarising the session and wrapping up.

In order to make the best use of our sessions, I may ask you to complete some exercises between sessions.

Coaching can take place on the phone, over Skype or face to face.

How much does it cost?

It is worth thinking about how much being happy and inspired in your career is worth to you. Hopefully this is far more than the investment you will make in coaching.

I offer a range of packages to suit different needs, as well as a free consultation to make sure that there is a good fit between us.  Top-up sessions start at £100 for a one hour Skype session.

I offer reduced rates if you are unemployed or work for a charity – please contact me for further information.

Is Inspiring Careers right for me?

The key to a good coaching relationship is finding the right coach for your needs and then working together effectively.  Experience shows us that the biggest criteria for successful coaching is that you are committed to change.

My free consultation will help us both understand if we are right for each other. If we are not, then I will tell you – and I am sure you will tell me.

Do I need a coach who’s experienced in what I want to achieve?

No, although it is beneficial in several ways.  For example, a coach who is experienced in supporting people to change careers will understand some of the potential pitfalls, how to accelerate the change and have specific tools that are proven to work in this process.

Before meeting Marcus I was a fresh graduate of IT and Business actively hunting for work, and running low on self-esteem from all the interview rejections. Marcus helped boost my interview confidence, by helping me realise my strengths and how to present them to possible employers. We discussed in our sessions what I felt I could improve on and how I would improve them. From the sessions with Marcus, I was able to achieve all my realistic goals. I have now secured my first IT job and I’d like to thank Marcus for all his help!
